Premiere Pro CC April 2018 Version Tutorial Slow Motion Interpret Footage & Proxies Work Around Subscribe: 🤍 Proxies are a great way to cut down the time you spend editing and a great way to work with high quality 4K footage. They take away a lot of stress from your computer and allow for a smoother editing experience. This video assumes you understand the basics of proxies and how they work in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The problem covered in the video is that if you interpret footage in Premiere Pro with ingest settings, it will cause a break with the proxy files and your editing workflow will be screwed. So the video shows an easy work around that is annoying to do, but necessary if you want to work with both proxy files AND 60 FPS Slow Motion clips in a 30 or 24 FPS project file. I may do a more in depth video on proxies in the future, but for those who already know about proxies, I wanted to help out the editing time when working as I use so much 60 FPS slow motion for my B-Roll clips. If you have a slow computer... or an apple computer... Adobe Premiere Pro might not work too smoothly when you're editing. By following this Premiere Pro Proxies Workflow tutorial, you can fix that and edit super smooth! If you want to edit faster, this is a must! Video editing can be a pain if your timeline doesn't keep up with you. I find when I shoot in 4k using my Sony cameras, Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019 has trouble reading the files in the timeline even though my Macbook Pro has a good set of specs and the files aren't that large. Unfortunately, this is just part of being a premiere pro editor on a MacBook (or a slow or older pc). Proxies allow you to make smaller and more easily readable files for Premiere Pro to display while you're editing. By using the toggle proxies button, you can switch between your full-resolution media and the proxy files. When I'm editing, I don't necessarily need to be looking at the full 4k resolution during the edit so 720p does just fine temporarily. Often times I hear about how people don't like proxies. Most of the time I have found out that people don't like them because of bad information. Most of the time, your computer struggles to edit the CODEC from your camera. Most mirroreless/DSLR cameras shoot in the H.264 codec which is the worst codec your computer can edit. Most of the time, I see people make proxies in the wrong codec (H.264) and often times, they even have the wrong aspect ratio/dimensions. Relinking (or attaching) and deleting proxy files in Premiere Pro are tasks you have to do often, when you are working with non-standard footage. It also comes in handy when you moved a project to a different location (new harddrive e.g.). Or when Premiere got hiccups and just rendered faulty proxies.
