That’s because China isn’t just shrinking, it’s also aging. And the majority of Chinese couples are not considering having more than one child. Because of this, China is predicted to lose nearly 50 percent of its population by 2100. China’s population decline can be traced back to the restrictive family-planning policies launched in the 1970s and an impressive economic boom fueled by China’s huge labor force. China’s modernization brought rapid urbanization, rising income levels, and better education to large parts of China. Combined, these policies and growth have given China one of the lowest birth rates in the world. Today, China is trying to reverse its population decline. Not just because an aging population is hard to sustain economically, but because China’s impressive economic growth, until now, has relied on its people. As China’s population challenges deepen over time, it might have to rethink how to grow its economy and care for its citizens. La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) anunció que pidió a las autoridades chinas información detallada sobre el reciente incremento en casos de enfermedades respiratorias y de brotes de neumonía infantil. A la espera de mayor información, la OMS aconsejó medidas para reducir los contagios similares a las tomadas durante la pandemia de COVID-19, tales como utilización de cubrebocas, guardar distancia con personas enfermas, quedarse en casa si se advierten síntomas, lavarse las manos con frecuencia o cuidar la buena ventilación. La OMS emitió estas recomendaciones después de que las autoridades sanitarias chinas informaron de un aumento de la incidencia de enfermedades respiratorias en el país, algo que atribuyeron al levantamiento de las medidas preventivas contra la COVID-19. In which John Green teaches you about China's Revolutions. While the rest of the world was off having a couple of World Wars, China was busily uprooting the dynastic system that had ruled there for millennia. Most revolutions have some degree of tumult associated with them, but China's 20th-century revolutions were REALLY disruptive. In 1911 and 1912, Chinese nationalists brought 3000 years of dynastic rule to an end. China plunged into chaos as warlords staked out regions of the country for themselves. The nationalists and communists joined forces briefly to bring the nation back together under the Chinese Republic, and then they quickly split and started fighting the Chinese Civil War. The fight between nationalists and communists went on for decades and was interrupted by an alliance to fight the invading Japanese during World War II. After World War II ended, the Chinese Civil War was back on. Mao and the communists were ultimately victorious, and Chiang Kai-Shek ended up in Taiwan. And then it got weird. Mao spent years repeatedly trying to purify the Communist Party and build up the new People's Republic of China with Rectifications, Anti Campaigns, Five Year Plans. the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told a visiting delegation of Muslim officials that Beijing is willing to help “restore peace in the Middle East”. “Let us work together to quickly cool down the situation in Gaza and restore peace in the Middle East as soon as possible,” Wang told visiting diplomats from Arab and Muslim-majority nations on Monday. Wang also said a humanitarian disaster was unfolding in Gaza that “affects all countries around the world, questioning the human sense of right and wrong and humanity’s bottom line”. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said the international community needs to shoulder the responsibility to stop Israel. Officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Indonesia, Palestine and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are in China as part of a tour that is calling for an end to fighting in Gaza and the delivery of more humanitarian aid into the territory. The delegation, which plans to meet officials from the permanent members of the UN Security Council, is also seeking to raise pressure on Western countries to reject Israel’s characterisation of its military campaign in Gaza as self-defence. An Arab-Islamic summit hosted by Saudi Arabia earlier this month demanded an end to the siege of Gaza, access to humanitarian aid, and a halt to the sale of arms to Israel while condemning “Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, war crimes and barbaric and inhumane massacres by the occupation government”.
