If your auditory system works like a computer, your ears are the hardware and your brain is the software. Even when the ears hear normally, errors in the software (the processing) can interfere with understanding or remembering what was heard. This is called Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) and often leaves sufferers feeling isolated and disconnected. Of the approximately 6% of the population struggling with APD, most don't even know it’s a disorder. The good news is that with specialised audiologist help, dramatic improvement in auditory processing is possible. Dr Angela Loucks Alexander, Audiologist, has spent fifteen years specialising in diagnosing and treating Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), a hearing difficulty with less to do with the ears and more to do with the brain. Despite significantly affecting potential and well-being, many of those affected are unaware of the condition, let alone their treatment options. Angela is the host of Between Two Ears podcast and founder of the Auditory Processing Institute, where she trains audiologists and speech-language pathologists to provide APD services. Sonos DSP FM audio processing + MPXtool

Here I am using Leif Claesson's MPXtool to monitor the output of the Sonos 1.0.27 "Limit" wideband DSP audio processor using my "Radio" preset with 75 uS pre-emphasis. (The refresh rate of MPXtool is actually much faster and smoother than what my screen capture program recorded.) As you can see, the bandwidth and modulation levels produced by Sonos are tightly controlled and fully suitable for transmitting on a high quality FM Stereo generator and transmitter. It offers greater than -55 dB protection to the 19 kHz MPX FM Stereo pilot tone, and it can achieve consistently high modulation levels without overmodulating. The resulting on-air sound and loudness is competitive with entry level hardware audio processors such as the Optimod 2200, CRL Amigo FM, and Inovonics David II.

Audio mastering for live video can be tricky, especially when running a one or two man show. We've done extensive research at available tools for audio mixing, and can't wait to share it with you. Audio is SUPER important! It’s more important than good video in many cases. One thing you should learn about is ASIO Audio Drivers. ASIO Drivers allow a single USB mixer to bring in multiple unique audio inputs. This is important because you may have a guitar, a female vocalist and/or a male vocalist that all need different EQ and compression settings. Trying to mix all of your audio input sources into a single source in your video production software is limiting and we want to have full control over the latest real-time audio processing solutions. Quick note about ASIO Drivers: ASIO Drivers usually will not work in Windows if they are not setup to be the default recording device. Once it’s setup properly you can bring in each source in the mixer as an individual stereo or mono audio input. Here the plugins we are using today!
