Možda nisi znao, ali Zanzibar nije zasebna zemlja. Zanzibar je ostrvo, smješteno uz istočnu obalu Afrike, sa površinom od 1 464km2 koje pripada Tanzaniji. U prevodu na naš, ime zemlje znači “Zemlja crnaca”, a sastoji se od arhipelaga ostrva Unguja (tj. Zanzibar), Pemba i nekoliko manjih ostrva. Istorija ostrva može da posluži kao bogata fontana nevjerovatnih priča i događaja, kroz koje su godinama smijenjivale razne kulture i narodi. Persijanci i Omanski Arapi (pored Indijaca, Portugalaca, Engleza…), bili su ti koji su se najduže zadržali ovdje, što je i jedan od glavnih razloga tome da je islam dominantna religija. Poređenja radi, kopnena Tanzanija je prezežno hrišćanska zemlja. Ali boraveći ovdje, vidiš da su oni mnogo različiti. Da kada zanzibarce upitaš kakvo im je mišljenje o ljudima sa kopna, obično odmahnu glavom i kažu da su oni Zanzibar, te da nemaju veze sa njima na kopnu. Tanzanija je više red, rad, disciplina i te priče. A ovdje? Ovdje je sve hakuna matata.
