David Bowie - Life on Mars? with lyrics
Scientists Find Possible Evidence of Mars Habitability ► Subscribe: 🤍 Scientists used to consider Mars a geologically dead planet. It's smaller than Earth and loses internal heat faster. In the past, there was a lot of activity in its depths, and there are many traces of huge volcano eruptions on its surface. The largest volcano in the Solar System, Olympus, can be seen from Earth even with an amateur telescope. But volcano eruptions on Mars stopped a long time ago. The planet's interior cooled and solidified, the internal cooling weakened its magnetic field, the solar wind blew away the atmosphere, and the remaining water froze. But recently, Mars has become more active. Everything changed when astronomers studied thousands of images of the Martian equatorial region. The images were taken between 2006 and 2020 by the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The HiRISE camera took the images at an altitude of 300 kilometers above the Martian surface. The images allow us to distinguish individual objects with a size of up to 1 meter. The study revealed a large number of landslides and debris flows on the slopes of the Martian volcanoes. Scientists have discovered more than 4,500 traces of rocks that have left characteristic patterns in the shape of a Christmas tree, which usually happens after strong earthquakes. The longest trace is more than 2.4 kilometers [1.5 miles] long and in total, these traces are around 900 kilometers [560 miles] long. About a third of the traces weren’t present on images before 2006, indicating that they formed later. It’s clear that only very powerful underground tremors are capable of moving these huge boulders. However, until recently, such tremors weren’t found on Mars. What helped scientists find out that Mars woke up? How did the recent samples taken from one crater almost come to life? And why will one of the most harmful gasses on Earth be so crucial for Martian colonists? 🌍 For some people going to this planet would allow to study closely these celestial objects made of rocks and metals. For others, Mars could be the fallback planet, if we could no longer live on Earth. Myth for some, challenges for others, making a colony on Mars to make it habitable, the questions have not stopped talking. But our close cousin was not always an arid world, at the mercy of the solar wind. There was a time when water covered much of the Martian surface and potential life could have developed there... 🔥 As a reminder, videos are published on SUNDAYS at 6:00 PM. - 💥 : Extraterrestrial life on Mars - Martian life, this mysterious facet of the red planet. To understand these origins, we must go back in time, going where it all began: antiquity. Indeed, the idea of the existence of a population on the red planet has invaded the scientific and astronomical scene for centuries, being found in the writings of several science fiction writers elucidating this theory in books and movies. But everything changed in the second half of the last century. After the launch of the first satellite in 1957 and the beginning of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union, eyes were soon on the red planet beyond the earth's orbit and even the moon. Several attempts were made to send research vehicles to Mars, but this task was not easy, all missions failed. It was not until 1964 that NASA's second attempt succeeded, Mariner 4 reached Mars safely in 1965. Flying at about 10,000 km above the surface of the planet, it sent back to Earth 22 pictures. These were the first images of Mars from such a short distance. And none of these pictures showed irrigation channels on its surface! But scientists did see craters adorning the Martian land and confirmed that the planet's atmosphere was made up of carbon dioxide. Another mystery that scientists want to decipher: where did Phobos and Deimos come from? Are they asteroids captured by gravity? Or natural satellites of Mars, which formed at the same time as the planet? It is also possible that they formed from debris that exploded when the young Mars collided with another planetesimal, in the same way that our Moon is thought to have formed when the Earth collided with a rocky object. Most likely, both satellites were part of the asteroid belt. Then, these last two were ejected by Jupiter, to finally find themselves gravitationally linked to Mars. Making these two surviving satellites the two moons of Mars. But, according to the latest scientific publications, these two moons, named after the twins of the gods Mars and Venus in Roman mythology, would be the remains of an impact between the red planet and an asteroid. The debris of this collision would have formed a ring in which a dozen satellites would have been accreted. Only the two most distant would have survived, Phobos and Deimos. - 🎬 On the program today: - 00:00 - Introduction - 02:30 - An unhospitable neighbor - 06:02 - What is the history of the exploration of the mysteries of Mars? - 16:10 - Traces of life on Mars - 19:33 - What secrets can Phobos reveal? - 25:55 - Underground life on Mars? - 28:38 - Underground lakes in the depths of Mars? - 30:20 - A soil capable of supporting a life! - 32:05 - Is there water on Mars? - 36:05 - Why did liquid water disappear on the surface of Mars? - 30:20 - A soil capable of supporting a life! - 32:05 - Is there water on Mars? - 40:15 - The mystery of the polar caps ... - 42:10 - Organic matter on Mars: a very interesting discovery - 45:50 - What does the presence of methane in the Martian atmosphere mean? - 48:42 - Was life born on Mars? - 50:40 - Did we come from the red planet to Earth? - 52:25 - Have humans polluted Mars? - 54:30 - Why did life on Mars disappear?
